The Composto Lab was represented with enthusiasm and innovation at the 4th Annual Frontiers of Energy Research Poster Session, where three standout undergraduates, Isa Pan, Colby Snyder, and Julia Chiang, showcased their forward-thinking research projects. This poster session was co-hosted by the Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology and the Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research (VIPER). Isa presented her research titled, “Novel Membrane Contactor for Direct Ocean CO2 Capture.” Her research focuses on developing an advanced membrane technology to capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) directly from ocean water. Colby Snyder presented his research on “Scaling Silicon Carbide Composites for Fusion Energy.” His research addresses one of the primary challenges in advancing fusion energy technology: developing materials that can withstand the extreme conditions within fusion reactors. Julia presented her research titled, “Aligned Hexagonal Boron Nitride Leads to Anisotropic Ionic Conductivity in Poly(ethylene oxide) Electrolytes for Sodium Batteries.” Her research seeks to improve the efficiency of current sodium batteries for sustainability-forward solutions. The sum contributions of Isa, Colby, and Julia’s projects reflect the Composto Lab’s dedication to tackling some of the most urgent energy challenges we face. Their work not only exemplifies scientific rigor but also embodies the spirit of innovation needed to pave the way for sustainable energy solutions.
